THE FIRM

Boğaziçi Research Group traces its origins to long-standing academic and applied engineering work carried out within Boğaziçi University, where the founding members were engaged in teaching, research, and advanced structural engineering practice for many years. The firm emerged from this environment as a continuation of a research-driven approach to structural behavior, seismic performance, and critical engineering judgment.

The group was formed around a senior professor of structural engineering who supervised the graduate research of two of the founding partners and led numerous advanced consultancy and research projects within the university framework. His academic work spans reinforced concrete behavior, seismic performance, and structural analysis, with a substantial body of peer-reviewed publications that continues to inform both research and practice.

In parallel with academic work, senior-level professional experience was developed through long-term involvement in bridge design and assessment practice in Canada, including participation as a principal engineer and shareholder in an established bridge engineering firm. This work involved the design and evaluation of highway bridges under North American codes and regulatory systems, contributing to a practical understanding of professional responsibility, peer review culture, and infrastructure performance expectations.

During this period, engineering software tools were developed to support bridge design and assessment, reflecting an early integration of computational methods into professional practice. One such tool was adopted by a public transportation authority, reinforcing the importance of analytical rigor, transparency, and regulatory acceptance in engineering work.

The firm’s perspective is further informed by direct experience within public administration. One of the founding partners served for many years as a senior bureaucrat and department head within the municipal administration of one of Turkey’s largest metropolitan cities. This background contributes a practical understanding of regulatory processes, public-sector decision-making, and the institutional constraints under which engineering solutions are implemented.

Following the senior professor’s retirement from Boğaziçi University, and after extended academic service by the other founding members the group transitioned from university-based consultancy to an independent professional practice. This transition was not a departure from academia, but a reorientation of the same rigor toward independent engineering work.

Today, Boğaziçi Research Group operates as an engineering and consultancy firm serving clients who require careful interpretation rather than routine application of codes, and judgment informed by both research and long-term professional practice. While independent from any academic institution, the firm maintains strong ties to research, continuous learning, and the disciplined engineering culture developed through decades of academic and international professional experience.
